I get a lot of messages asking which of my products will fit a customer’s specific brand of planners. I buy and own a LOT of planners (I mean, it’s a business expense!), but I don’t have them all. I want you, as a customer, to be able to shop confidently, so I’ve put together a guide to measuring your planner’s binding, and how to tell which style of my products will fit.
Type of Binding
There are a two important considerations:
First, the type of coil or binding. I make products to fit the four main types: coil, wire-o, disc, and rings. Take a look at the examples below to determine what kind of binding your planner has.
The second thing to understand is called the pitch. Pitch is the number of holes per inch. Pitch is written as (number of holes):(1 inch). Spiral planners are generally 4:1 (4 holes per inch), wire-o can be 2:1 or 3:1, and discs are usually 1:1, meaning the holes are spaced one inch apart.
Here’s a list of some planner brands, and type of binding and pitch they use.
Planners with a spiral binding include:
Erin Condren
Plum Paper
KitLife
Rocketbook
Carrie Elle
Yellow Paper House Recollections
Wire-O (2:1)
Planners with a 2:1 wire-o binding include:
Simplified Planner
Day Designer
Powersheets
Ivory Paper Co. MakseLife
Wire-0 (3:1)
Most office supply/Target type planners including:
Blue Sky
Mead
At-A-Glance
Disc
Happy Planners have a disc binding.
Measure Your Planner
Once you’ve determined which type/size binding you have, there are two important measurements that are essential to determining fit. First is the height of the page. Measure the interior pages, not the cover. Second, the distance from the top of the top hole to the top of the page. This is important to be sure the tabs on my Page Snaps bookmarks will sit the appropriate distance above the page. Some planners have a longer distance, causing the tab not to show all the way. Conversely, if the distance is shorter, the tab may stick up too far. My Spiral Snaps and Page Snaps are easy to cut with regular scissors to create a better fit, but because you can’t adjust the height of the tab, this measurement is important.
The images below show the detailed measurements of the planners my products are designed to fit. You can use it to figure out what will fit YOUR planner the best. Links will take your directly to those items in my Etsy shop. I can only guarantee the fit on the planners I have physically tested.
Spiral Bindings
** A note about spiral bindings. For whatever reason, there are two different bindings that are both considered a 4:1 pitch, and they are sliiiightly different. They holes on the first (more common) type, are not actually spaced every ¼ inch. They are spaced a teeny bit closer, causing the holes to not line up on the quarter inch once you get 4-5 inches down the page. This type is used by Erin Condren and Plum Paper planners. It tends to be a thicker metal or plastic coil. The other type has holes spaced even less than a quarter inch which causes the holes to be even farther off. This is the type that KitLife planners use, and tends to be a little thinner metal. It’s a really odd thing, and requires careful measuring, paying attention to where the holes fall on your ruler, not only the first inch, but farther down the page. Here are some detailed photos to help you understand.

Ring Bound
Ring bound planners come in two main configurations. A5 and Personal sized rings. There are two sets of 3 rings on each, with a space between them. This space is smaller on personal rings (see image below for specific measurements). Once you’ve determined which size of ring binding you have, there are two important measurements that are essential to determining fit. First is the height of the page. Measure the interior pages, not the cover. Second, the distance from the top of the top hole to the top of the paper.
